Support Our Cathedral

Stewardship FAQ

How do I become a member of the parish?

Membership in the Orthodox Church begins at baptism (Chrismation for some) and continues throughout our life. We are united with Christ through the sacraments, or mysteries, of the church and through our faithful offering of our entire selves to Jesus Christ. Our members must live according to the Orthodox faith and abide by the canons of the Church. The sacraments of our church are available to all of our Members without any fee or charge.

If you have any questions about your eligibility as a member, you should contact Father Ambrose.

What is stewardship?

Stewardship is the primary means whereby our Cathedral supports itself and its Ministries. Our stewardship program asks each member to complete a pledge card each year and return it to the Church at the beginning of each year. On the pledge card, members make annual financial commitment to the Cathedral, and indicate their interests to volunteer their times and talents to help the ministries of the Cathedral.

You can access a stewardship card here.

How much should I pledge?

The financial commitment which you make to our Cathedral is your decision based upon the gifts which God has bestowed upon you and your family. There is no minimum or maximum pledge. Your pledge is kept confidential.

Why must I commit to complete a pledge card and commit to give a specific amount?

Your commitment is important to our Cathedral and the amount pledged is used by our Cathedral for budgeting purposes. Also, a completed pledge card is required if you wish to participate as a voting member in Parish Assembly meetings or if you wish to become a candidate for the Parish Council.

What if I cannot fulfill my stewardship commitment?

During the course of a year, people’s circumstances change. Your stewardship is valued because it is made out of love for God and His Church. Should it become necessary, a parishioner may request to adjust his or her commitment. You may contact the Stewardship Chair or the Presiding Priest.

From what other sources does our Cathedral raise funds to meet the budget?

Additional financial assistance comes from:

1. The Norfolk Greek Cultural Festival

2. Candle Contributions

3. Tray Contributions

4. Memorial Contributions

5. Miscellaneous Donations

What is the Stewardship goal for our Cathedral?

Our Stewardship goal is the full participation of the Cathedral’s faithful members in Its sacramental, spiritual, and philanthropic life, along with their generous contribution towards Its operating expenses. This would allow the other contributions to expand our Ministries and spiritual goals. May the Lord guide the faithful of our Cathedral to satisfy 100% of the operating expenses through Stewardship.

In addition to my financial commitment, how else may I help my Cathedral?

Involvement! This is the key to our community and faith. We need you as we all grow in God’s love when you are a part of our community. Our Annunciation Cathedral offers many areas of service and parishioners are most urgently asked to commit their talent and time. Only through involvement does the life of the Parish become more meaningful.
