2012 Stewardship Ministry Program
"Abide In Me"
Strengthening Our Relationship
With Faith In Christ
Christ Multiplies Our Gifts : Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,
sent His
Disciples into the crowd to ask that they give what
they could for the benefit of all. May we be encouraged,
knowing that He will bless our efforts and multiply our own gifts today,
just as He did that day, making our individual sacrifice an abundance.
Giving Our Gifts With Faith In Christ: The 2012 Stewardship Ministry theme is “Abide in Me”. We abide in Jesus Christ when we follow His example and love, serve and support the Church which is His Body. When we abide in Christ, we express this through generosity and devotion, especially in our financial stewardship and acts of personal generosity. Bearing fruit in the world is the visible result of our abiding in Christ.
Giving Regularly: St. Paul tells us: "On the first day of every
week, each of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income." 1
Corinthians 16:2. Every Sunday we should be prepared to make our Stewardship
contribution to the Church in accordance with the Lord's generosity to us
personally. Supporting the Church should be a priority for every Orthodox
Christian and performed on a regular and consistent basis.
Proportionate Giving: The Old Testament laid down the standard of
the
tithe or 10% of one's income. This provides us with
the principle that giving should be in proportion
with our income. Stewardship is returning to God
a fair proportion of the resources He has given to
us. Every person 18 years of age or older and married
couples, should be Stewards of the Community,
offering their time, talent and treasure to the
Church.
Stewardship Offering 2012: "No one shall appear before the Lord empty-handed, but each of you with as much as he can give, in proportion to the blessings which the Lord, God has bestowed on you."
Deuteronomy 16:10, 16-17
Jesus Christ sets the true standard of the
Orthodox Way of Life by which we can
measure ourselves. Our Orthodox Way of Life
should be shown in the following ways:
• Creation - joyful appreciation for the wonder and
beauty of nature; protection and preservation of the
environment; bringing the gifts of creation to the
Church for blessing (altar bread, wine, fruits, oil,
incense, etc.); development of the material world
through holy work (physical labor, professions, arts
and sciences); respect for and protection of the
sanctity of human life from conception to death.
• Vocation - fulfillment of our God-given calling in
life as married or single people, adult or child,
working or retired, clergy or laity, to extend the love
and truth of God in Christ to those around us.
• Church - becoming active participants in working
out our salvation as members of the Orthodox Church
through the Christian nurture of children, regular
worship and fellowship; spiritual formation through
on-going education; service to one another and to the
poor, sick, and needy; cooperating to make our parish
a vibrant source of faith and work; and supporting
Metropolitan, Archdiocesan, and international
ministries that link us to the worldwide Church.
Time, Talents and Treasures: Stewardship
is more than calculations or portions
or percentages. It can’t be reduced to a number of
hours of service or dollars offered only. Steward-
ship is a way of life...the Orthodox Way of Life.
As Orthodox Christians, we are called to a new
way of seeing things - a new way of life. Our
stewardship is obedience to the greatest
commandment to “love the Lord with all your
heart, soul, mind and strength.” We are called to
bring others to commit their lives to Jesus Christ
in such a way that leads to the joy of knowing
Him personally and profoundly.
As Orthodox Christians, we see the world as
God’s gift, as a sacrament of God’s presence
and a means of communion with Him. And so
we are able to offer the world back to God in
thanksgiving as we say in every Divine Liturgy “Thine own of Thine own we offer to thee...”
2012 "Thank You" Gift: The 100th Anniversary Committee has minted a bronze coin which commemorates our 100th Anniversary Year. On the front is the icon of the Annunciation cast in bronze. On the reverse is the following quote taken from the Bible: "Your word, oh Lord, is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path." (Psalms 119:105) " So always remember where your heart belongs.” Each family will receive one bronze coin as a “thank you” gift upon submissions of a Stewardship Card.
